41 athletes, three teams compete at Splashland’s sprint triathlon

ALAMOSA – The Splashland Hot Springs Pool hosted its 10th Annual Sprint Triathlon last Saturday with 41 individuals and three teams coming as far as Colorado, California, Kansas, New Mexico and Texas participating. There were 24 different age groups.

The event raised more than $1,000 to purchase veteran and disabled patron equipment at the pool for access to all swimmers using Splashland for fitness, rehabilitation and rejuvenation/relaxation.

The triathlon consisted of a 3.5-mile run, a 10-mile bike race and a 400-yard swim.

Todd McKusker of Larkspur recorded the fastest time of 1:00:32 in the men’s 55-59 age division. Torin Kolke of Colorado Springs was second in 1:01:18 in the men’s 30-34 division. Mike Trujillo of Antonito was third in 1:04:19 in the men’s 50-54 division.

Vanessa Zwegers of Alamosa had the fastest women’s time of 1:10:38 in the women’s 35-39 division. Marta Pap of Denver was second in 1:11:02 in the women’s 50-54 division. Elissa Regan of Salida was third in 1:13:07 in the women’s 35-39 age group.

The fastest time for a two-person team was Team Plain of Gunnison with a combined time of 1:04:33.

The fastest time for a three-person team and the fastest team time was Team Jade of Alamosa in 0:56:21. Team Polkowske of Alamosa was second in 1:17:11.
