Donald Glen Larsen

Posted

Donald Glen Larsen, known affectionately as Don, left this world on Oct. 8, 2024, at San Luis Valley Health in Conejos County, Colo. Born to parents Harry Larsen and Mary (Carter) Larsen Creel in the crisp winter of 1940, on Feb. 18, in Colorado, Don's journey began amidst the backdrop of the Rocky Mountains which he so cherished throughout his life.

A pillar of the community, Don dedicated his life to the soil and animals as a passionate farmer and rancher—a vocation he truly loved and wherein his hardworking spirit thrived. Don's commitment to his work was equaled only by his unwavering dedication to his family.

He was the loving father to Kyle (Marci) of Wellsville, Utah, Jeff (Brenda) of Hooper, Colo., Dana (Wilma) of Texoma, Texas, Rhett (Roxane) of Sanford, Colo., Melissa (Kit) Caldon of Sanford, Colo., and Cole (Shanae) Larsen of Sanford, Colo., and daughter-in-law Priscilla Larsen. The patriarch leaves behind a legacy through his 27 grandchildren and 35 great-grandchildren, all of whom he adored. His siblings Kathy (Harold) Peterson, Harry (Juanita) Larsen, and Michael (Patty) Creel.

Don was preceded in death by his parents, his cherished son Blane Larsen, and his brothers Richard and Kenneth Larsen.

Don was a dedicated member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and held too numerous church callings to name.  An outdoor enthusiast, Don's mechanical aptitude was unparalleled, always finding ways to innovate and problem-solve on his ranch. Those who knew Don recognized his deep love for music, which found its most joyous expression as a devoted member of the Conejos County Coalition of churches choir. His voice became a harmonious symbol of his faith and his commitment to celebrating life’s simple joys.

Donald Glen Larsen's song may have ended, but his melody will echo through the valley for eternity.

A visitation will be held Saturday, Oct. 12, 2024, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Sanford starting at 9 a.m. through 10:45 a.m. The funeral service will follow at 11 a.m., then he will be laid to rest in the Sanford Cemetery.
