All but one SLV team in action this week

ALAMOSA – The eighth week of the high school football season is this weekend with all but one San Luis Valley team in action.

The following are thumbnail sketches of this week’s games.

ALAMOSA (4-2, 2-0) AT MONTEZUMA-CORTEZ (5-1, 2-0)

This week: The Alamosa Mean Moose will be on the road to face the Montezuma-Cortez Panthers with first place in the Intermountain League on the line. Kickoff is at 7 p.m.

Last week: The Mean Moose defeated Gunnison 44-15 at home last Friday, and the Panthers defeated Salida 34-27 at home also last Friday.

Next week: Alamosa will travel to Salida next Friday for a 7 p.m. kickoff. Montezuma-Cortez will travel to Pagosa Springs with kickoff slated for 7 p.m.

#3 CENTAURI (6-0, 2-0), IDLE

This week: The third-ranked Centauri Falcons will have an open date as Del Norte canceled the remainder of its varsity season.

Last week: The Falcons defeated Center 58-0 on the road last Friday.

Next week: Centauri will travel to Trinidad next Saturday. Game time is at 1 p.m.

CENTER (0-6, 0-2) AT IGNACIO (2-4, 1-1)

This week: The Center Vikings will play at the Ignacio Bobcats this Friday at 7 p.m.

Last week: The Vikings lost to third-ranked Centauri 58-0 at home last Friday. The Bobcats defeated Trinidad 53-6 on the road last Friday.

Next week: Center will have an open date as Del Norte canceled the rest of the varsity football season. Ignacio will host Monte Vista next Friday at 7 p.m.

COTOPAXI (1-5, 1-3) AT #3 SIERRA GRANDE (6-0, 3-0)

This week: The third-ranked Sierra Grande Panthers will host the Cotopaxi Pirates this Saturday. Kickoff is at 6 p.m.

Last week: The Panthers defeated Branson/Kim 52-45 at home last Friday to take over sole possession of first place in the Southwest League. The Pirates had an open date.

Next week: Sierra Grande will close out the regular season at La Veta next Thursday at 7 p.m. Cotopaxi will have another open date.

#2 MANCOS (5-1, 2-0) AT SANFORD (4-2, 2-0)

This week: The Sanford Mustangs will host the second-ranked Mancos Bluejays on Friday at 6 p.m.

Last week: The Mustangs defeated Sargent 52-20 at home last Friday. The Bluejays defeated Vail Christian 50-6 on the road last Saturday.

Next week: Sanford will travel to Dolores next Friday with kickoff slated for 2 p.m. Mancos will host Norwood next Friday at 7 p.m.

#9 PRIMERO (5-1, 2-1) AT ANTONITO (0-6, 0-4)

This week: The Antonito Trojans will close out the regular season on Saturday as they will host the ninth-ranked Primero Bulldogs. Kickoff is at 1 p.m.

Last week: The Trojans lost to La Veta 60-12 at home last Saturday. The Bulldogs had an open date.

Next week: Antonito’s season is completed. Primero will host Branson/Kim next Saturday at 7 p.m.

SANGRE DE CRISTO (1-4, 0-2) AT WALSENBURG (3-3, 1-1)

This week: The Sangre de Cristo Thunderbirds will travel to face the Walsenburg Panthers this Friday at 7 p.m.

Last week: The Thunderbirds lost to Hoehne 46-6 at home last Friday. The Panthers lost to Crowley County 34-22 on the road last Saturday.

Next week: Sangre de Cristo will host Crowley County next Friday at 7 p.m. Walsenburg will travel to Fowler next Friday for a 7 p.m. kickoff.

SARGENT (3-3, 1-1) AT NORWOOD (2-4, 0-2)

This week: The Sargent Farmers will go on the road to take on the Norwood Mavericks this Friday with kickoff scheduled for 7 p.m.

Last week: The Farmers lost at Sanford 52-20 last Friday. The Mavericks lost at fourth-ranked Dove Creek 50-26 last Friday.

Next week: Sargent will host Dove Creek next Friday at 7 p.m. Norwood will travel to second-ranked Mancos next Friday at 7 p.m.

TRINIDAD (2-3, 1-1) AT MONTE VISTA (4-2, 2-0)

This week: The Monte Vista Pirates will host the Trinidad Miners on Friday. Kickoff is at 6 p.m.

Last week: The Pirates had an open date at Del Norte canceled the rest of its varsity season. The Miners lost to Ignacio 53-6 at home last Friday.

Next week: Monte Vista will travel to Ignacio next Friday for a 7 p.m. kickoff. Trinidad will host Centauri next Saturday at 1 p.m.
