Stampede kicks off with Friday slack

102nd Annual rodeo continues through Sunday

MONTE VISTA – The 102nd Annual Ski-Hi Stampede got underway Friday afternoon with the slack at the Stampede rodeo grounds.

There were three events in the slack – barrel racing, tie-down roping and breakaway roping

Turning in the best time in barrel racing was Jentry Vendenberg of Bellvue in 15.71 seconds. Loralee Ward of Fort Lupton was second in 15.89, and C.J. Vondette of Rifle was third in 16.07.

Riley Pruitt of Gering, Neb., had the top time in tie-down roping in 8.6 seconds. Jayden Broussard of Broussard, La., was second in 9.1, and Jacques Trahan of Hackberry, La., was third in 10.3.

Taya McAdow of Fort Lupton had the best time in breakaway roping in 2.6 seconds. Dara Belew of La Junta and Charity Hoar of Pine Bluffs, Wyo., tied for second in 3.1.

The local rodeo took place following the slack. Those results will be printed in Tuesday’s edition.

The first performance was Friday evening. The rodeo continues with the second performance Saturday at 7 p.m., the it wraps up with the third performance Sunday at 2 p.m.
