SUDS 4 SAR to save lives

ALAMOSA — The annual SUDS 4 SAR fundraiser for the Alamosa Volunteer Search and Rescue (AVSAR) team was a success. The group, which operates in conjunction with the Alamosa County Sheriff's Office, provides rescue operations in the nearby mountainous backcountry.

AVSAR is entirely non-profit. Its mission is, "Our purpose is to coordinate and conduct search and rescue operations in Alamosa County...so that others may live."

Sheriff Robert Jackson said, "This is a great fundraising event. AVSAR has been really busy this summer. They've spent a lot of time on the mountain [Blanca Massif], and it is starting to take resources. People are getting tired. Rescuers are spending time away from their families and jobs. They have done a great job this summer."

AVSAR has been deployed on three searches since July 26. Two of those were on Ellingwood Point and the most recent SAR was on the South Zapata Lake Trail.
