Celebration of Lights in Alamosa on Friday

Santa will be visiting State Avenue at 6:30 p.m.

ALAMOSA — Deck the Halls in Alamosa this Friday. At 5:30 p.m., there will be a tree lighting ceremony at City Hall with music provided by the Alamosa State University Chamber Ensemble.

This will be the 16th Celebration of Lights celebrated by the city. Last year more than 200 people attended the event.

It is also First Friday in downtown Alamosa, and Wild Roses, A Country Store and So Much More at 511 Main St. will have games and giveaways. There will be holiday markets at Milagros Coffee House located at 529 Main St. and at Sweetgrass Therapeutics at 418 State Ave., featuring live music, makers, sweet treats, and warm beverages. Santa will be at Sweetgrass Therapeutics at 6:30 p.m.

Throughout the day there will be Shine Bright and Shop Local events downtown and the first Shine Bright Tree Decoration Contest. There will also be live music at other venues downtown.

Other events this weekend include performances at Adams State University of the "One Act Play That Goes Wrong," at 7:30 p.m., on Friday and at 2 p.m. on Sunday. There will be a Share the Magic benefit performance of the play for La Puente Home on Saturday at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are available at www. theater.adams.edu or by calling 719-587-8499.

On Saturday, Society Hall presents, "A John Denver Christmas," with tribute artist Chris Collins at 7 p.m. Tickets are available at the Green Spot on State Avenue in Alamosa or at societyhall.org.
