Hal Hupfer

Posted

Hal Hupfer was called home on Nov. 7, 2022. The Lord saw that he was tired after working hard on his little farm (his little piece of heaven, as he referred to it) and took his hand.

Hal was born on Sept. 4, 1950, in Denver to Melvin and Donna Hupfer. He was raised in Denver and graduated from West High in 1968. He worked many jobs while attending Metro State College. In 1971, he transferred to Trinidad State College in Trinidad, Colo. He met his wife, Clara, there and were married in 1973. They moved to Antonito, Colo., where he worked many jobs including the Silbrico and Mansville perlite mines.

In 1975, Joshua, their son, was born. He is the love of their life. Hal later attended Adams State University and received his teaching degree. He taught at Centauri High School and later taught at the Antonito schools. He loved teaching. So many of his students were like an extension of our family. He loved his students so much.

In 2001, he purchased our small farm. He bought some cows and so loved this phase of his life. He loved gardening and sharing the produce with his friends and neighbors. He loved farming, fishing, hiking, but most of all he loved spending time with his family. He will be forever missed, and we will forever deeply feel his loss.

Hal is survived by his wife Clara, son Joshua (Michelle), and grandsons Zachary, Dylan, and Tyler. Also, his father Melvin Hupfer, and sisters Marcia (Donn), Sue (John).

He was preceded in death by his stepfather, Ron Brown and stepmother, Donna Hupfer along with many uncles and aunts.

Funeral services will be held on Aug. 19, 2023, at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church in Conejos, Colo.
