Los Mocochetes to rock Cole Park on Sunday

Posted

ALAMOSA — The Alamosa Live Music Association is providing free live music in Cole Park all summer long, with its Sundays at Six concert series. The music continues at 6 p.m. on July 21, with the 8-piece, Chicano funk band, Los Mocochetes.

Los Mocochetes is from Denver. This colorful cast of characters fuses thoughtfully brazen, socio-politically charged song lyrics, groovilicious melodies and high-energy stage antics to create an immersive experience. Much like a machete, which can be used either as a tool to build or a weapon they have chosen to use their music to inspire and encourage positive social change.

Every show is different, but it’s always a dance party with a purpose.

Los Mocochetes received the Westword Music Showcase award for Best Latin Band of 2017 and Best Funk Band of 2018. They were named Colorado Standout for NPR’s Tiny Desk Contest 2018 and opened for contest winner Naia Izumi on the Denver stop of his national tour.

The current lineup features artists with a wide variety of influences. They are poets, singers, painters, rappers, actors, musicians, dancers, producers, composers, dreamers, doers, thinkers. Check them out at http://itationsyoga.com/.

ALMA is partnering with RSVP (Retired and Senior Volunteer Program) of Alamosa County and the Food Bank Network of San Luis Valley by having a food drive at each Sundays at Six concert this summer, to benefit the Alamosa Food Pantry. All are invited to contribute a non-perishable item or two for this food drive. Look for the receptacles under the ALMA tent at each concert.

Some ideas of much-needed items include canned meat (tuna and chicken), peanut butter and other nut butters, low-sodium canned veggies and beans, healthy snacks (low-sugar granola bars, dried fruit, etc.), gluten free items, healthy canned or boxed meals (chili, etc.), shelf-stable milk and milk alternatives.

Tacos Martinez and Frosty Acres Rolled Ice Cream food trucks will selling their delicious offerings at each concert this summer.

The show will be livestreaming on ALMA's Facebook page www.facebook.com/almalivemusic.
