Longtime La Jara resident, Maria E. “Hope” Barela, 93, went home to be with the Lord on November 7, 2021 at the Rio Grande Inn Nursing Home. Born on August 29, 1928 in La Jara, Colorado the daughter of Hilario Ramirez and Delubina Salazar Ramirez. Maria devoted her life to being an exceptional wife, mother, grandmother, raising and caring for her family. She enjoyed praying with and for her family, doing crossword puzzles, going to bingo and watching novelas. She loved the time she spent with her family and friends.
She will live on through her children Della Ruybal , Denise (John) Leal, Leslie (Bart) Ornelas all of Denver, CO; Ruth Chavez of Englewood, CO; Eric (Wendy)Barela of La Jara, CO; Benny Barela, Robert J. Barela, Joseph Gomez all of Denver, CO; 16 grandchildren, 35 great-grandchildren, 10 great-great-grandchildren brother Lionel; (Takako) Trujillo of San Antonio, TX. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Maria was preceded in death by her parents Hilario and Delubina Ramirez, husband Jose B. Barela, daughter Vigy Barela, brothers Joe Ramirez, Sevadeao Blea, sister Melinda Barela and one grandson Louie Gomez.
A Vigil Service with Recitation of the Rosary will be held on Saturday, November 13, 2021 at 9:30 AM at Our Lady of the Valley Catholic Church in La Jara. A Mass of the Resurrection will follow at 10:00 AM also at Our Lady of the Valley Church. Interment will follow at the La Jara Cemetery.
