Ronald Joseph Martinez

Longtime Antonito resident Ronald “Ron” Joseph Martinez, 65, was called home on December 4, 2021 at his home in Antonito.

Ron was born in Denver, Colorado on May 25, 1956, the proud son of Tony Rosenaldo Martinez and Elva Marie Trujillo Martinez.  He served in the United States Army and was stationed in Germany.

He worked as a fabricator for many years.  Ron loved spending time with his family.  He liked to camp and fish, taking rides and cruising around in his truck “White Lightning” and listening to music.  One of his favorite road trips was to travel to the Red River Motorcycle Rally with his brothers Anthony and Steven and his best friend Charlie.  In his spare time he liked watching the Denver Broncos play football.  He loved his favorite dog “Rocky” who once saved him from getting bit by a rattlesnake.

Ron is survived by his siblings Lucille (Jalal) Shahabian of Denver, CO, Anthony (Teresa) Martinez of Antonito, CO; Michelle (Willie) Salazar of Antonito, CO, Steven (Maria) Martinez of Colorado Springs, CO, and Christine Smith of Ohio; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and great-nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents Tony and Elva; his sister Manuelita “Lita” Torres; his brother Charles “Charlie” Martinez and his brother-in-law Lee Smith.

Cremation was chosen and a recitation of the Rosary will be held at 10:00 am on Saturday, January 8, 2022 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish in Conejos with a Mass beginning at 10:30 am.  Inurnment will follow services in the Los Cerritos Cemetery in Manassa.  Rogers Family Mortuary is in care of the arrangements.  To leave online words of comfort, remembrances or condolences for Ron’s family, please visit www.RogersFunerals.com
