ALAMOSA – The Alamosa High School girls soccer team had another tough test on Tuesday as it hosted Crested Butte, the seventh-ranked team in Class 2A, at the AHS stadium.

The Lady Titans proved their ranking as they rolled to a 9-0 win over the Lady Mean Moose.

“I love playing Crested Butte and so do our girls,” said Alamosa coach Claire Lara. “The coaches are fantastic and the players are fantastic. I thought our girls played very well and they stepped up. Our girls are starting to connect passes. Our second half was much better. I’m really thrilled with our girls and seeing them work on the little things and making those things happen.”

It didn’t take long for Crested Butte to get on the scoreboard as Leigh Harpel found the back of the net in the game’s sixth minute. India Nornes made the score 2-0 in the next minute on a breakaway.

Molly Grace Miller increased the score to 3-0 in the 22nd minute, and Nornes scored again in the 27th minute to give the Lady Titans a 4-0 lead at halftime.

Rio Crabtree scored the first goal in the second half in the 44th minute.

Nornes scored the remaining goals. Her goals came in the 51st, 53rd, 73rd and 78th minutes to give her six goals for the game.

Crested Butte put 23 shots on goal while the Lady Mean Moose managed six.

Kacey Hillis made 14 saves in goal.

Alamosa (3-4, 1-2 Southwest League) returns to league play on Friday as it will host Montezuma-Cortez.

“It should be a good game,” Lara said. “I expect a very physical game with Cortez. It always is. But together we rise. Here we go.”

The varsity game begins at 1 p.m.
