ALAMOSA — Society Hall is thrilled to welcome Temple Grandin, renowned bestselling author, speaker, and CSU professor of animal behavior science, Tuesday, Feb. 6, at 7 p.m., at Society Hall, 400 Ross Ave., Alamosa. Doors will open at 6 p.m. Brought to you by your local SLV Area CSU Extension team, Grandin will be speaking on “Visual Thinking: The hidden gifts of people who think in pictures, patterns, and abstractions,” which is also the title of her recent book. Her book, Calling All Minds, was a New York Times best seller for middle school students. Her life story has also been made into an HBO movie titled — “Temple Grandin,” starring Claire Danes, which won seven Emmy awards and a Golden Globe. The movie shows her life as a teenager and how she started her career.

In 2017, she was inducted into the Women's Hall of Fame, and in 2018 made a fellow by the American Association for the Advancement of Science. Grandin was named as one of the top 10 Best College Professors in 2020 by CEO Magazine. In 2022, she was named a University Distinguished Professor at Colorado State University. Visual Thinking, her latest book, was also on the New York Times best seller list. Dr. Grandin is generously making this presentation in support of the San Luis Valley Extension Program.

SLV Extension believes in the power of lifelong learning, and everything they do is designed to foster healthy youth and families, prosperous farms, ranches and businesses, and strong, resilient, proud communities. The San Luis Valley 4-H Youth Extension program has historically been led by two, full-time youth development specialists, but it has been over 12 years since it has been able to be fully staffed. The Outcalt Foundation recently gifted SLV Extension the funding for the initial three years to hire a second 4-H specialist. Now the extension is launching an endowment campaign to fund this new position permanently.

Tickets are $20 and revenue from ticket sales will support this 4-H position endowment. Any additional donations to this cause will be gratefully accepted. We expect this event to sell out, so we encourage you to get your tickets early. The event will also be live streamed on the Society Hall Facebook page and YouTube channel. Tickets are available at the Society Hall website at www.societyhall.org and may also be purchased at the Green Spot Garden Center in Alamosa, or give Ruthie Brown a call at 719-580-7838.

The Society Hall board, a non-profit organization dedicated to providing a place for community celebrations of all kinds, invites everyone to join them in the hall for an evening with Temple Grandin, at Society Hall, at the corner of 4th Street and Ross Avenue in Alamosa, Tuesday, Feb. 6, at 7 p.m. Doors open at 6 p.m. at Society Hall.
