ALAMOSA — At the Oct. 9 meeting of the Alamosa County Board of County Commissioners, Maricruz Mora, Controller, presented a preliminary 2025 budget which is balanced.

Expenditures in the operating budget are $57 million, revenue $53 million with the difference coming from budget reserves.

Commissioner Lori Laske told the Valley Courier the county has been putting aside funds into the reserves for three to four years to finance expensive machinery and added she is proud the budget is balanced.

The budget document states, “Alamosa County’s 2025 budget is sound and was carefully built to allocate the necessary resources to maintain the county’s current level of operations, to safeguard its reserves and to provide investment in infrastructure and other capital items. The county is maintaining its financial strategy to control growth in its base budget in order to be sustainable in the event of a revenue drop in the future. Our fund balances currently provide us with that needed stability.”

Included in the preliminary budget document are these demographic statistics; Alamosa County total population is 16,460, an increase of .5%, ranking 28th out of 63 counties in Colorado. The daytime population is 17,307. The median household income is $52,271, this is 40% lower than the state average. Twenty-three percent of household income is below $25,000.
