ALAMOSA — Alamosa Police Department Chief Ken Anderson held a press conference Friday morning to provide updates on the shooting of an Alamosa police officer and adult male on Thursday afternoon.

According to Anderson, at 4:10 p.m., officers responded to the report of a fight in progress in the 1200 block of Denver. Upon arriving on the scene, officers encountered a juvenile suspect who produced a handgun and shot one of the officers, striking twice. The officer was immediately transferred to SLV.

The type of weapon or extent of the officer’s injuries were not made public.

The suspect was taken into custody.

Officers also found a second victim in the same vicinity as where the officer had been shot. That victim was immediately transferred to SLV Regional Medical Center where he underwent surgery.

Both victims were then subsequently flown to a hospital along the Front Range.

Anderson reported that the officer is currently in stable condition. The second victim, who was only identified as a 41-year-old man, is listed in critical condition.

At this time, APD has two suspects in custody. One is known to be a juvenile but no other information, including the age of the second suspect, is being released at this time. No further threat is posed to the public.

Anderson said multiple agencies were on the scene, including the 12th Judicial District Attorney Anne Kelly, Colorado Bureau of Investigation, Alamosa Sheriff’s Office, Conejos County Sheriff’s Office, Monte Vista Police Department, Colorado Division of Wildlife and the Colorado State Patrol.

Kelly praised the highly professional response by local law enforcement and expressed gratitude for the “outpouring of support by other law enforcement agencies in the valley.”

Anderson said that anyone who witnessed the incident or has any pertinent information is encouraged to call 719-589-2548.
