ARPO social tournament brings pickleball to life

ALAMOSA - What do the words “Dink”, “Drive”, “Drop”, “Lob”, and “Kitchen” have in common?

Spectators at Carroll Park might have heard those terms frequently during the first Annual Alamosa Regional Pickleball Organization Social Tournament held on Saturday.

Twenty-four players on the Red and Blue squared off for eight rounds of thirty-two games total.  Red took an early lead, then it was tied for the middle rounds, then Blue came out ahead with a strong finish. After the tournament, players and their guests enjoyed a barbecue social lunch at the park.

ARPO board member Dee Rudoff, who sparked the idea of hosting the social tournament and planned the games schedule, commented,

“The social tournament was conceived as a structured event to bring together our regular local players in a fun and competitive way, while including their families as spectors, and for a delicious cookout afterwards. Thanks to the support of ARPO board members and volunteers, the event ran very smoothly, and the feedback from players was overwhelmingly positive.”

The ARPO Board expresses gratitude to Alamosa Parks and Recreation for their support. Pickleball is the fastest growing sport in the nation and is a game that can be enjoyed by players of all ages and abilities.
