Fort Garland resident Michael Phillip Lopez, 61 was welcomed to his eternal home on Sept. 9, 2024, surrounded by his loving mother. 

Michael was welcomed into the world on Feb. 9, 1963, to the late Andrew Lopez and Veronica Poindexter in Oakland, Calif. Michael was a very loving and caring son, nephew, cousin, and friend. Michael had many hobbies in his life that he enjoyed in his spare time, surfing, golfing, fishing, riding motorcycles, and the greatest of all was collecting rocks. 

He was a family man and enjoyed the time he was able to spend with each of them. He loved his friends as if they were his own family and would lend the shirt off his back to help anyone in need. Michael will be deeply missed by all who knew him. 

His legacy will live on through his beautiful mother Veronica Poindexter, granddaughter Andrea Katz, Lifelong friend Greg (Terry) Daniles, Chris Madres, aunt May (Tony) Barbuscia, aunt Liz (Don) Cook, uncle Ben (Ann) Gallegos, uncle Gene Medina, cousin Ken Gallegos, many other cousins and friends. 

He was preceded in death by his father Andrew Lopez, two brothers John and Mark Lopez, Son Christopher Fitzgerald, grandparents Joe and Celia Gallegos, aunt Maria Medina, and uncle Eloy Gallegos. 

Services for Michael will be held on Sept. 16, 2024, at Church of God Cristo Salva in Alamosa at 1 p.m. Inurnment will follow at the Blanca/Ft. Garland Cemetery.
