Woman posts best net score at Kahler tourney

ALAMOSA – For the first time in its history, the Alex P. Kahler Memorial Tournament opened its competition to women.

One female golfer took advantage of the new inclusion as Madeline Adam recorded the best net score in the championship flight.

Adam, who hails from Chandler, Ariz., and competes on the University of Hartford’s women’s golf team had a net of 137 which is five under par.

Adam, however, did not record the best gross score. That went to former Alamosa High School player Brenden Crowther with a 142. Adam finished third in the gross with 147.

Carson Gylling was second in the gross with 146, followed by Adam, and Challis Wright with a 150.

Crowther was second in the net with 138, followed by Austin Heersink with 139. Gylling and Wright tied for fourth with a 142.

In the first flight Austin Kelleher had the best gross with a 154 and the best net of 140. Eddie Valdez was second in the gross with 161 and tied for third in the net with 147. Anthony Romero was third in the gross with 162 and second in the net with 144. Ryan Werkmeister was fourth in the gross with 163 and tied for third in the net with 147.

Colton Mellott had the best gross in the second flight with 150 and the best net of 132. Jim Wright was second in both the gross and net with 163 and 143, respectively. Keith Griggs was third in both gross and net with 164 and 146, respectively. Kevin Haas was fourth in both with 165 and 147, respectively.

In the third flight, Noel Thompson recorded the best gross with 167 and the best net of 139, Daniel Clark was second in the gross with 169 and he tied third in the net with 147. Edwardo Masias was third in the gross with 170 and second in the net with 144. Samuel Clark was fourth in the gross with 175 and tied for third in the net with 147.

Kade Jones won the gross in the fourth flight with a 170 and he tied for first in the net with 138. Brandon Mizokami was second in the gross with 172 and tied for first in the net with 138. Mark Kissel was third in both with 179 and 141, respectively. Doug Messick was fourth in the gross with 184, and John DeHerrera was fourth in the net with 149.

The fifth flight was won by Matthew Blankenship with a 181 in the gross and 135 in the net. Shannon Peirce was second in the gross with 195 and he tied for third in the net with 149. Paul New was third in the gross with 197 and tied for third in the net with 149. Patrick Vigil was fourth in the gross with 201 and second in the net with 145.

Grover Hathorn won the senior flight with 152, followed by Ken Madsen with 158, and Mitch Baker with 162.
