ALAMOSA — The Sport Facility and Event Management class planned and conducted the 2018 SLV Special Olympics Dust Devils Basketball Showcase on March 4th in Plachy Hall. Sport Facility and Event Management is based within the Human Performance and Physical Education Department at Adams State.
The class dedicated time and energy planning and preparing for the showcase which is a platform to display the talent of the valley's Special Olympics basketball athletes. The event was also a fundraiser for the SLV Dust Devils. Thanks to great support from the audience through donations and a silent auction, the class reeached their fund raising goal. Thanks the generosity of the those in attendance costs for the upcoming track season and entire fall bowling season have been covered.
The showcase featured more than 30 players and player partners that were split up between the red and white teams for an intra-squad contest for this year’s basketball showcase. Using the Special Olympics Unified format, 3 Special Olympics athletes and 2 partner players were on the court at all times for each team. After a hard fought game, the white team narrowly won with a score of 36 to 35.
