Abel Medina
LA JARA — Gypsum resident Abel Medina, 49, passed away August 22, 2020, at his home. Abel was born on September 10, 1970, in Los Alamos, New Mexico, the son of Ricardo Medina and Lucia Leyba Medina. Abel was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin and friend who enjoyed hunting, fishing, anything outdoors, and spending as much time as h could with family and friends. He was an avid Denver Broncos fan and he will be dearly missed.
He will live on through his wife Margarita Casias of Gypsum, CO; stepdaughter Genieve Esparsen of Gypsum, CO; stepsons Jonathan (Tammie) Esparsen, Carlos (Bernadette) Esparsen both of Gypsum, CO; in-laws Richard and Natie Sanchez of Antonito, CO; grandchildren Naomi, J.J., Natalie, Oakleigh, Samuel, Dominic, Olivia, RaeAnn, Julie, Matthew and great-granddaughter Liliana, sisters Geraldine (Louie) Atencio of Gypsum, CO; Lupita (Mike) Trujillo of Leadville, CO; brothers Richard Medina of Gypsum, CO; Sammy Medina, Larry Medina, Rudy Medina, Meliquias Medina all of Pinasco, NM. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Abel was preceded in death by his parents Ricardo and Lucia Medina, first wife Sharon Rica Sanchez-Medina, brother Dennis Medina, paternal grandparents Anastacio and Rebecca Medina, maternal grandparents Meliquias and Maria Leyba, sister-in-law Deborah Rael, Lorraine DeHerrera, Veronica Caraveo and Jean Maestas.
A Vigil Service with Recitation of the Rosary will be held on Monday, August 31, 2020, at 1:00 PM at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Conejos. A Mass of the Resurrection will follow at 2:00 PM also at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. Interment will follow at the La Jara Cemetery.
