Beatrice Ortega Chacon, 89

Beatrice Ortega Chacon, 89, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Monday, February 4, 2019.  Bea was born on October 8, 1929 to Sisto and Elena Ortega in Alamosa, CO, where she was a life-long resident.  She attended the Assembly of God Church in Capulin, CO.

Bea attended Bible College in El Paso, Texas as a young woman.  She was employed at the Alamosa Community Hospital for 20+ years before retirement.

Bea had a deep, abiding faith in God, studied and knew her Bible well, and was an avid reader of Christian literature.

Bea always kept herself busy by enjoying word search puzzles and making embroidered sets of dishtowels. Her passion was quilting.  Although she struggled with arthritis, she was still making quilts by hand up until a few days before her passing.  She loved cooking and looking at recipes.  At her age, she still made jars of jams and jellies. On most Saturdays you could find Bea looking for treasure at garage sales. She kept her yard well tended with many beautiful flowers and plants. She was known for her independence and strong will.

Bea was preceded in death by her parents and her late husband, Abel DJ Chacon, Sr.. She was the youngest and last surviving member of her family.

Those left to cherish her memory are her children, Barbara (Mike) Pearce, Blountville, TN; David (Patti) Chacon, Denver, CO; Evelyn (John) Pacheco, Alamosa.  Special grandsons: Jonathan Chacon, Brian Pacheco, Matthew, David and Christopher Pearce, great-granddaughters, Elle and Andi Pacheco, several nieces, nephews and friends.
