Broyles wins council seat

ALAMOSA — Though the raced narrowed, David Broyles will officially be the new City of Alamosa Councilor for Ward 2. According to Alamosa County Clerk and Recorder Melanie Woodward, yesterday's recount didn't change the recent results and Broyles beat incumbent Kristina Daniel 336 to 335 votes.

On Election Day there was only an eight-vote differential between Broyles and Daniel, with 335 and 327 votes respectively. However, there is an eight-day period to allow for military and oversea ballots to arrive along with signature discrepancies to be fixed. Those remaining ballots were counted on Nov. 16 with 25 randomly withheld ballots to protect voter privacy. That newer count with a one-vote difference led to Tuesday's automatic recount.

The recount focused only on the Ward 2 race and though there is still a one-vote difference the result is now final.

Daniel said yesterday that she plans on submitting a letter of interest to the city this week in hopes of filling Ty Coleman's vacant at-large seat. The application deadline is Dec. 1.
