Conejos resident Estevan Gurule Jr., went to his eternal rest on Jan. 13, 2024, at the Rio Grande Inn nursing home in La Jara, Colo., with his loving family by his side. Esteven was welcomed into the world on April 12, 1931, to the late Estevan Gurule Sr., and Manuelita Martinez Gurule.

He spent the last 43 years with his friend and partner Teresa Mix. The two joined families and had 10 children.

Estevan was a cowboy at heart and loved being outdoors and working on the ranch and farm. He was a man of many talents. He was a carpenter, a welder, a plumber, just to mention a few. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, sheep herding, and most of all the time he spent with his loving family.

He was a great man. He was a family man. He will be missed by all who knew him his legacy will live on through his partner and his children Teresa Mix, his daughters, Sandra Gurule, Lora belle Gurule, Glenda (Kelly) McCarroll, Angel Espinoza, Charlotte (Will) Gurule Holland, Raylene (Jose) Mix, sons, Andrew Gurule, Steve (Toni) Gurule, Jim Mix, Ray (Candice) Mix, 23 grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren, sisters Pearl (Ed) Garcia, Mildred Ayote, brothers Orlando Gurule, Ben (Emma) Gurule, and numerous extended family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents Estevan and Manuelita Gurule, two grandsons Wesley Quintana, Joshua Gurule and his brothers and sisters.

A Viewing will be held on Thursday, Jan. 18, 2024, at Romero Valley Funeral Home in Alamosa from 12 p.m.-4 p.m. Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, Jan. 19, 2024, at 10 a.m. also at Romero Valley Funeral Home.
