Evan F. Sanchez

CHAMA — Chama resident Evan F. Sanchez, 86, passed away May 27, 2019 at his daughter’s home with his loving family by his side. Evan was welcomed into the world on June 18, 1932 in Chama, the son of Celestino Sanchez and Lucy Quintana Sanchez.

He was united in marriage to Alice DeHerrera on Dec. 6, 1962 in San Luis. The two shared a loving and happy union for 58 years until his recent passing. Evan was an exceptional husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin and friend who enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, dancing, listening to music and riding horses. Above all he loved and cherished the time he was able to spend with his family and friends.

Survivors include: his loving wife Alice Sanchez of Chama; his daughters Cecilia (James) Lobato of Chama, Beatrice (Paul) Olivas of Denver, Tina (Juan) Hernandez and Joan Sanchez of both Colorado Springs; his sons Evan Sanchez Jr. and Adam Sanchez both of Colorado Springs, and Ted Sanchez of Canyon; 20 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and his sister Betty (Orlando) Quintana of Colorado Springs. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Evan was preceded in death by his parents Celestino and Lucy Sanchez, daughter Yvonn Sanchez, one grandson Michael Adam Sanchez, sisters Mary Rael, Lucaria Cordova, Presilliana Vialpando and one brother Zacarias Sanchez.

A Vigil Service with Recitation of the Rosary will be held Friday, May 31, 2019 at 7 p.m. at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Chama. A Mass of the Resurrection will be held on Saturday, June 1, 2019 at 11 a.m. also at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Chama. Interment will follow at the Chama Cemetery.
