Garry Atencio, 62

Alamosa resident Garry Atencio, 62, went to his eternal rest on November 12, 2018 at his home surrounded by the company of his loving family. Garry was welcomed into the world on April 20, 1956 in Alamosa, Colorado, the son of Louis Atencio and Lucy Silva Atencio. Garry worked as a heavy equipment operator for Alamosa County Road and Bridge for 42 years. He was united in marriage to Sandra Casanova and the two shared a long and happy union. Garry was an exceptional and loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin and friend who enjoyed going fishing, being in the outdoors and going gambling. Above all, he cherished the time he was able to spend with all his grandchildren, family and friends. He will be dearly missed.

Survivors include his wife Sandra Atencio of Alamosa, CO; daughter Sara (Aaron) Beck of Missouri, step-daughter Sonia Chacon of Alamosa, CO; grandchildren Amaya Beck, Brandon Beck, Raziel Melgares, sisters Shirley (Roy) Medina of Sanford, CO; Jackie (Daniel) Herrera of La Jara, CO; one brother Ramon (Emily) Atencio of La Jara, CO. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Garry was preceded in death by his parents Louis and Lucy Atencio and one brother Ronnie Atencio.

A Rosary will be held on Wednesday, November 14, 2018 at 7:00 PM at the Romero Funeral Chapel in Alamosa.  A Mass of the Resurrection will be held on Thursday, November 15, 2018 at 10:00 AM at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Capulin.
