DEL NORTE — Gilbert L. Sanchez, 86, of Del Norte, passed away peacefully on Nov. 3, 2019. He was born Aug. 3, 1933 in Del Norte to Doroteo and Ramoncita Romero Sanchez. Gilbert was united in marriage to Christine Cordova Sanchez on Nov. 24, 1962 in Del Norte. He adored Christine in their 56 years of marriage.

Their marriage was a true example of a love story.

Gilbert proudly volunteered and served in the United States Army for eight years.

He enjoyed the building industry so much he started his own business Sanchez Construction which he owned for many years until he retired.

His personality truly was a wonderful example of having all the attributes of the fruit of the Holy Spirit: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control.

Gilbert had quite a sense of humor: Christine, family and friends knew he was a romantic, as well. He enjoyed playing guitar, harmonica, singing and dancing.

He enjoyed spending time in the outdoors with his family and friends.

Gilbert loved hunting, fishing, camping and gardening. He also loved helping others, Christine’s cooking and his Denver Broncos.

He will be missed by his family and friends. Till we meet again.

Gilbert’s parents, brothers, sister and wife, Christine, preceded him in death.

Survivors include one daughter, Karen (Allen) DeLong of South Fork.

Three sons, Mark (Heather) Sanchez of 7-Mile Plaza; Michael (Ramona) Sanchez of Del Norte; and Gibbs (Christina Gillenwater) Sanchez of 7-Mile Plaza; along with 10 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren (one on the way), as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Upon Gilbert’s and Christine’s wishes, cremation was chosen. A celebration of life service will be held at a later date.
