Grace Yaeko Mizokami

Grace Yaeko Mizokami passed on November 8, 2018 at home in Chandler, Arizona, just 9 days before her 93rd birthday.

Grace was born on November 17, 1925 in Alamosa, Colorado to Frank and Isayo Yoshida.  She graduated from Alamosa High School on May 24, 1943 and was awarded a scholarship to college.  At the time it wasn’t felt that she should go to college therefore her choices were sewing school or marriage.  Her wedding was arranged for February 20, 1945 to Mike Mizokami.  They had three children, Warren, Brian and Joyce Mizokami along with four grandchildren, Aaron (Mandy), Bradley (Monica), Ryan and Darcy (Frank) Jimenez, five great-grandchildren, Parris, Derek, Abraham, Cynthia, and Taizo, and her beloved pet Kylie.  She is survived by sisters Edith Nishikawa, Bessie Konishi. Judy Yamakishi, and brother Gary Yoshida.

She was an avid crossword solver, who finished one or more per day and most times threw in a word search puzzle along with it. Watching Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune were on her daily agenda for the challenge and solving the puzzles. She was a devoted wife and a loving, nurturing mother that always placed the needs of others above her own. She will always be remembered for her gentle, quiet spirit and a warm, infectious smile.

A memorial service will be held Thursday November 15, 2018 at 3 PM at the Arizona Buddhist Temple at 4142 W. Clarendon Avenue, Phoenix, Arizona.
