Antonito resident Harold L Martinez passed away on Aug. 12, 2023, at his home in Ortiz, Colo. He was surrounded by his loving family at his side. Harold came into this world on Aug. 24, 1933. He was born in Los Pinos, N.M.

The son of Ezekiel and Pablita Martinez he moved to Redcliff, Colo., in 1955 and met the love of his life Cecelia J. Martinez they were united in marriage on April 6, 1959. They shared 63 years together until Cecelia‘s passing on Feb. 5, 2021.

Harold was a hard-working soul since he was growing up, he helped work the farm with his family, then went to work for the railroad, then worked for Gilman mine in Minturn, Colo. He moved to Superior, Ariz., and worked for Bordens milk company for eight years.

He then moved back to Ortiz in 1967. Then went to work for the Perlite mine for the next 28 years before retiring in 1995.

He enjoyed camping, fishing, ranching and he had a special love for animals. He was still bucking bales at 84 years of age. Most of all enjoyed his grandchildren. He had his special love for each and every one of them. He loved funny rhymes, and making everyone laugh. He loved his ice cream bars, too.

He was one of 13 siblings and outlived them all. He will live on through his daughters, Pauline Martinez, Patricia (Andrew Gallegos), sons, Tony (Michelle Martinez), Richard (Susie) Martinez, Greg (Tina) Martinez, grandchildren Tanya and Tammy Sandoval, Andrew John and Joey Gallegos, Anthony, Christopher, Brianna and Ethan Martinez, Greg Jr. and Soraya Martinez, Nathanael and Lyndi Martinez, great-grandchildren Victoria, Saday, Brian, and Amaya, Isaac and Layla Cecilia, Ellieanna and Anthony Jr. and Daniella, great-great-grandchild is Avianna. He is survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Harold was preceded in death by his wife Cecilia, son Harold V. Martinez, granddaughter; Kristie Gallegos, brothers Amos, John, Alfonso, Willie Isaac, Uvaldo, Manuel and Robert, sisters Celia, Anita, Eva, and Mary.

Cremation was chosen and Services will be held at a later date.
