Herbert “Herb” L. Myers of Del Norte, Colorado entered into rest at the Joni Fair Hospice House in Pueblo, Colorado on Wednesday, September 5, 2018.

Herb was born on December 24, 1937 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma to Howard L. Myers and Gladys Elaine Myers.  The family moved to South Fork, Colorado when Herb was 15.

After graduating from Del Norte High School in 1956, Herb joined the Air Force and served four years as an aviation mechanic.  Part of his time in the service was spent in Japan and the Philippines.  After leaving the service, he lived and worked in Walnut Creek, California for a short time. In the spring of 1966, while living in Del Norte, Colorado and working in the family construction business, Herb met Bernadette Taylor.  He had a hot little MG she wanted a ride in.  They were married on November 12, 1966.  On September 22, 1968, the couple welcomed their first child Melissa into the family.  Two years later, on December 1, 1970 their son Marc was born.

Being a jack of all trades, Herb worked various jobs throughout the years primarily in the construction and electrical field.  When he retired at 71, he had worked 11 years for Rio Grande County as maintenance supervisor over the courthouse and adjoining buildings.  Herb enjoyed reading, was an avid history buff, and was also a hobby man.  He enjoyed modifying model trains and cars and had a small eBay business with his younger brother Gary.

Herb is preceded in death by his father Howard L. Myers, mother Gladys E. Myers, and younger sister Barbara Slade.  He is survived by his younger brother Gary (Linda) Myers, wife Bernadette Myers, cousins, nieces, nephews, great nephews and great nieces and leaves behind a legacy in his children Melissa (Eddie) Ray and Marc (Jill) Myers, grandchildren Chelsea (Chris) Charles, Jared (Ally) Ray, Brenna Ray, Mason Myers, Logan Myers, and great grandsons Joseph Lira and Jason Ray.

He will be remembered as a man with a tremendous work ethic and an ornery sense of humor.

A celebration of life service will be held in Herb’s honor on Saturday, October 6, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at the Pioneer United Church, in Del Norte, Colorado.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Herb’s name to the Joni Fair Hospice House, Sangre De Cristo Hospice and Palliative Care, 1107 Pueblo Blvd. Way, Pueblo, Colorado, 81005.  Donations may also be dropped off at Rogers Family Mortuary in Monte Vista, Colorado.  To leave online condolences for Herb’s family, please visit www.RogersFunerals.com
