Hope Maria Velasquez

FORT GARLAND — Hope Maria Velasquez, passed away peacefully with her family by her side at the San Luis Care Center on May 13, 2019.

She was born in Fort Garland on Aug. 4, 1929 to Adolph Sr. and Josephine (Atencio) Martinez.  She worked for over 30 years in the nursing field. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family. She was a woman of strong faith and enjoyed reading her bible daily. She will be dearly missed by her family and friends.

She is proceeded in death by her parents and husband Enrique “Henry” Velasquez Sr, and brothers Adolph Martinez Jr, Dale Martin.

She is survived by her sister Mary Jane Crites, children Rose Ann (Joseph) Ortiz, Henry (Karen) Velasquez Jr, Mike (Eleanor) Velasquez, and Paul (Betty) Velasquez. Her grandchildren Matthew (Kim) Velasquez, Joshua (Antonia)Velasquez, Steven Velasquez, Audra (Sean) Velasquez, Jacob (Amber) Velasquez  and Benjamin Velasquez. Great-grandchildren Alejandro, NayLani, Lana Velasquez, Kailynn King, Maleah and Kaleah Velasquez, Raleigh and Jared Velasquez and C.J. Nix, Jerry Dennis (Dawnia) Smith. Her niece Evelyn (Leonard) Smith as well other nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, May 18, 2019 at the Blanca-Fort Garland Community Center.  A private family burial will follow services in the Trinchera Cemetery.  Contributions are suggested to the San Luis Valley Health Oncology and Infusion Center and may be made in care of the funeral home office.  To express condolences, please visit www.rogersfunerals.com.
