Howard ‘Jake” E. Jacobsen 1941-2019

Howard ‘Jake” E. Jacobsen, 77 of Monte Vista, CO passed away on Tuesday, January 29, 2019 under Hospice care.  He was born in Denver, CO to the late Einer Jacobsen and Myrtle “Nora” Anderson.

Jake was a “1959” graduate of Alameda High School and served in the U.S. Army. He became a Service Oiler where he worked 38 years at the Winslow Construction Co. Jake was a 36 year member of the International Union of Operating Engineers Local 9.  He enjoyed watching the Denver Broncos, bowling, boxing, and spending time with his loving family. Music and dancing was the passion that brought Jake and Janett together. They were married in 1998. Retired together and made the Valley their home in 2003.

Jake is survived by his wife Janett Jacobsen of Monte Vista, CO; daughter, Danielle (Larry) Lucero of Brighton, CO; daughter, Deanna (David) March of Anchorage, AK; step-daughter, Kelly (Daniel) Hooper of Colorado Springs, CO; step-son, Robert (Michelle) Books of Glenolden, PA; brothers, Bruce (Anne) Jacobsen of Longmont, CO; Raymond Jacobsen of Littleton, CO; 8 grandchildren, Brandon Rushton, Jordan Lopez, Josh Lopez, Kayla Lucero, Caitlyn Carosella, Ashley Pearcy, Connor Pearcy and Alexa Pearcy.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Dot Crites; brothers, Paul and Alan Jacobsen; and son, Edward Lee Chavez. 

The family chose cremation. A memorial service will be held in the Spring at the Fort Logan National Cemetery and a Celebration of Life will be held in the San Luis Valley at a later date.
