Monte Vista resident and the Legendary Godfather of Hispanic Music Programming Jerry A. Medina, 60, passed away on the night of March 24, 2019. Jerry was born on October 2, 1958, the son of Joe Garcia Medina and Ernestina Santana Esquibel.

Jerry worked as the announcer for the local radio station for many years, where he was able to get to know and interact with members of the community. Jerry has been a Radio announcer D.J. for 40 years. He started off at 17 years old. Jerry enjoyed providing The Best in Spanish music to all his listeners from Colorado to New Mexico Region. Jerry was deeply loved by many people and he touched countless hearts with his wonderful personality and his huge, loving heart he had for all who crossed paths with him. He was a loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin, and friend who enjoyed playing the best in Spanish Music. He was an avid Denver Broncos fan and he loved the time he was able to spend with his family and friends.

Survivors include his daughters Angela (Manuel) Jaramillo, Amy (Dan) Oliver, Shelia (J.J.) McWilliams all of Monte Vista, CO; sons Manuel (Amanda) Medina, Alex (La Donna) Sandoval, J.C. Medina all of Monte Vista, CO; 15 grandkids, 4 great-grandchildren, brothers Benny (Betty) Medina of Houston, TX; Chris (Kathy) Medina of Leadville, CO; and special friend Kayla Ulrich of Del Norte, CO. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Jerry was preceded in death by his parents Joe and Ernestina Medina, Joe Medina, Santana Medina, brothers Amadore, Michael, John, Manuel, Andres, and Raymond Medina.

A Vigil Service with Recitation of the Rosary will be held on Tuesday, April 2nd, 2019 at 7:00 PM at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Monte Vista. A Mass of the Resurrection will be held on Wednesday, April 3rd, 2019 at 11:00 AM also at St. Joseph Church in Monte Vista. Interment will follow at Monte Vista Cemetery.
