Juan Roberto Marquez (79) of Monte Vista, CO died Wednesday, January 30, 2019 at the Rio Grande Hospital in Del Norte, CO surrounded by his loving family. Juan was born December 18, 1939 in Saguache, CO to Juan Bautista Marquez and Cecilia Manchego. Juan honorably retired from the United States Air Force as a Master Sergeant after working as an Airplane Mechanic during the Vietnam War. He married the love of his life Angelina Rivera on October 4, 1958 in Center, CO. He was a proud member of the VFW and loved his career for the US Postal Service and Common Wealth Irrigation. In his down time Juan was an avid outdoorsman who loved to camp and fish. He enjoyed shooting pool, throwing horseshoes, barbeques and family gatherings. In his later years he was a regular bingo player and announcer for games at the VFW and Homelake Veteran’s Center bingo halls. He will be greatly missed by his family and community.
Juan is preceded in death by his parents Juan and Cecilia, wife Angelina, son Jay, siblings, Duane, Stella, Larry, Sandra, and Eleanor Marques.
He Is survived by his children Scott (Berdi) Marquez, Duane (Cameo) Marquez, Wanda Marquez, John Marquez, Cecilia Vigil, and Shannon Marquez; Siblings Dorthy Archuleta, Peggy (Jose) Rubalcava, Barbara Marques, Rick Marques, Billy Marques, and Tammy (Gino) Zamora; 20 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A Rosary will be held at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Monte Vista February 6, 2019 at 7 pm. Services will be at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church February 7, 2019 at 10 am with interment at Home Lake Veterans Cemetery following the service.
