Kathryn Marie Valdez, 72

MONTE VISTA — Monte Vista resident Kathryn Marie Valdez, 72, passed away peacefully on Jan. 27, 2020 in her home under Hospice Care surrounded by her loving family.

Kathryn was welcomed into the world on Nov. 12, 1947 in Del Norte, the beloved daughter of Joe “Repito” Sandoval and Estella Gallegos Sandoval.

Kathryn was united in marriage to the love of her life, Rudy Valdez, on Feb. 22, 1969, the two shared a long and loving union of 50 years until her passing.

A loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin and friend, Kathryn enjoyed crocheting, doing puzzles, going to bingo, and spending time with her children and grandchildren.

She will be dearly missed.

Kathryn will live on through her loving husband, Rudy Valdez of Monte Vista; daughters Amanda Velasquez of Del Norte; Clara (Rodney) Allen of Denver; Rebecca (Raymond Adrian) Hurtado of Monte Vista; nine grandchildren, Neal (Jordan Stewart) Valdez, Quinton Velasquez, Deidra (Jeremiah) Gonzales, Destiny (Josue) Garcia, Desiree (Carlos) Rivera, Danessa Allen, Devon Allen, Andrea (Tito) Bliesner and Adrianna (Chris) Pacheco; and nine great-grandchildren, Brian, Amberleigh and Bella Valdez, Adam Valdez, Roman Allen, Rose Rivera, Elias Garcia, as well as Ian and Owen Pacheco; sister, Mary Giron of Grand Junction; brothers, Horace Sandoval, David Sandoval, Clarence Sandoval and George (Michelle) Sandoval, all of Del Norte; Rodney’s children,  Angel (Jose) Vargas; and her children, Damian, Giselle and Gian Carlo  and Ashlee (JesseRay) Allen-Salazar; and their child Azariyah Salazar. She was also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Kathryn was preceded in death by her parents, Joe “Repito” and Estella Sandoval; and one sister, Beverly Ann Sandoval.

Viewing will be held on Thursday, Jan. 30, 2020 from 1-5 p.m. at the Romero Funeral Chapel in Alamosa.

A Prayer Service will be held on Thursday,  Jan. 30, 2020 at 7 p.m. at the Romero Funeral Chapel in Alamosa.

A funeral service will be held on Friday Jan. 31, 2020 at 10 a.m. at the Monte Vista Assembly of God Church, located at 881 N. Hwy 285 in Monte Vista. I

Interment will follow at the San Luis Valley Cemetery.
