Former Monte Vista, Colorado resident, Louis E  “Gene” Odette, 93, passed away on February 14, 2019 at his home in Pueblo West, Colorado.  He was born on December 23, 1925 in Garden City, Kansas to Louis F. Odette and Bessey Wheeler.

Louis worked for the Colorado Department of Transportation where he retired after 36 years.  He was a member of the Tri-County Sr. Center, “3 wheeler club” and a lifelong member of the Monte Vista Elks.  He enjoyed playing pool, various card games, and being with his many friends and family.

Survivors include his daughter, Eugenia (Earl) Djuric of Pueblo West, CO; nephews, Denny (Ann) Rhiness of Delta, CO; Greg (Kae) Madden of Westminster, CO; Granddaughter, Kalysta (Rob) Djuric-Upton; great nephew, Derek (Tammy) Rhiness of Delta, CO; great-great nieces, Brenna and Carissa Rhiness of Delta, CO; Mariah Clare  (Madden) Hutto and Melesa Noel Madden, Westminster, CO; two step great grandchildren, Max Upton and Julie Smith; six step great-great grandchildren, Robby, Kadence, Lucas, Brooke, Ellie, Payton; and numerous friends.

Louis is preceded in death by his wife, Dortha Jean Odette of Monte Vista, CO; parents, Louis F, and Bessey Odette of Monte Vista, CO; son, Willard (Billy) Odette of Monte Vista, CO; sisters, Evelyn M. Rhiness and Maxine Madden; nephews, CJ Rhiness, Randy Rhiness; niece, Debbie Madden; great niece, Christy Rhiness; and great granddaughter, Kirsten Djuric; as well as many life-long friends.

Service will be held at Strohmayer’s Funeral Home in Monte Vista, CO on February 22, 2019 at high noon.

In Lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Tri-County Senior Citizens Center.
