Mavis W. Holland, 99

Lifetime Manassa resident Mavis W. Holland, 99, passed away Sunday, February 3, 2019 at the San Luis Valley Health Conejos County Hospital.

Mavis’ life began on November 17, 1919 in Manassa, Colorado, the daughter of Grover Cleveland Weston and Margaret Sophia Christensen Weston.  She married Clarence Walter Holland on September 11, 1938 and then sealed to him in the LDS Temple in Mesa, Arizona on April 7, 1942.

Early in Mavis’ working career she helped assemble Airplanes during World War II.  She would later take positions working in the Alamosa Hospital Nursery delivering babies and was a bookkeeper for Home Lumber in Alamosa as well as the Alamosa CO-OP. 

Mavis loved raising her flowers and quilting.  She was a very kind person that never judged and enjoyed the company of family and friends.  She also enjoyed travelling and seeing all the sights. 

She is survived by her son Robert (Joanna) Holland of Alamosa; her grandchildren: Adelle Carbutt of Alamosa, Paul (Gretchen) Holland of Ft. Collins, Colorado, Kent (Lita) Holland of Vilseck, Germany, Eric (Marcie) Holland of Pueblo, Colorado; Roger Wesley Holland and Robert (Stacey) Holland; as well as 17 Great Grandchildren and 4 Great-Great Grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Mavis is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Clarence, her son Ed Holland, her grandchildren: Allen David Holland, Jan Michelle Holland, Tracie Lei Holland and Dennis Eugene Holland; her brothers and sisters: Dorothy Bradford, Sophia Irvin, March Christensen, Warren Weston, Flora Sellers and Dwayne Weston; one great grandchild Chase McCoy.

A visitation will be held from 9:00-10:45 a.m. in the Primary Room followed by a Funeral Service 11:00 a.m. Saturday, February 9, 2019 all at the Manassa Stake Center of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.  Interment will take place following the funeral service in the Manassa Cemetery.
