Robert Garlin Trower

ALAMOSA — Robert Garlin Trower passed away peacefully in his home April 7, 2019 after a short illness. Bob was born Dec. 14, 1938, in Alamosa, Colo. He was the fourth son and sixth child of nine children born to Lorna and Garland Trower.

He graduated high school at the Cal Farley Boy’s Ranch in Amarillo, Texas, and often talked about the many adventures he had while he was there.

Bob was in the Army Reserves for eight years and worked for Mountain Bell Telephone Co. for 26 years before opening his own businesses: The Frame Shop and Black Bridge Gallery and The Picture Place.

On Sept. 2, 1962, Bob married Evon Cole and together they raised five daughters.

Bob is a prize-winning photographer and would often find beauty in unexpected subject matter and was able to compose often viewed locations into something spectacular.

He found joy in surprising others with things he had made, like stilts or fishing poles and willow whistles carved by hand. He was a good listener and often blessed others with the things they had mentioned in passing. His sisters, children and grandchildren all have been surprised and blessed by his generosity to them.

He has always been a good example of kindness, generosity and Christlike love. Bob had a love of travel taking his family to many exciting places in their little Red Dale camper. No matter where they went, he always commented about how nice it was to go somewhere new, but it was always nicer to come back home.

Bob was preceded in death by his brothers, Joseph Vernell, Maurice Estel and Russell Eugene; his father, Garlin Deward, and mother Lorna Vivian; his sisters, Norma Jean and Wilma Colleen; and a son-in-law, Aaron Buckley (Kelly).

He is very proud of his large posterity which consists of his five daughters: Bobbi (Tim) Wall, Toni (Maury) Lee, Joey (Dave) Carlson, Kelly (Chris) Hall and Leslie (Bob) Scholfield; his grandchildren: TJ Wall, Jenifer (Alfonso) De la Cruz, Caitlin Wall, Jordan Wall, Jacob (Summer) Lee, Cody (Nicole) Lee, Makenna (Josh) Harris, David Wayne Carlson, Liz (Mark) Robison, Rachel (Josh) Benson, Sarah (Jordan) Birch, Danny (Claire) Carlson, Perry Carlson, Peter Carlson, Ryan Buckley, Tyler (Desiree) Buckley, Jack (Lorensa) Buckley, Kevin Buckley, Taylor Scholfield, Lauren Scholfield and Ashley Scholfield; and his great-grandchildren: Naomi, Clara, Artemis, Zella, Aurelia, Florence, Anna, June, Connor, Alaina, Alyssa, Aaron, Axel and Arik.

Bob was a great story teller, but could not tell a joke without giggling through the punchline. He was a life-long learner and explorer. He will be missed here, but his adventures have only begun and he has looked forward to it.

A funeral service will be held Friday ,April 12, 2019 at 11 a.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter day Saints located at 9271 Weber Dr. Interment to follow services at the Alamosa Cemetery.
