Rose Dolores Malouff, 81, passed away on Wednesday, September 26, 2018 in Farmington, NM. She was born July 28, 1937, in La Jara, CO to Howard and Gertrude (Horton) Smith. She was raised on the farm until she married James “Jim” Malouff on November 1, 1954. They moved to Costilla, NM and had eight children; Eugene, Marion, Mark, Edward, Jeanine, Karen, Jimmy, and Raymond.

She stayed very busy raising her children and helping to run the family store, Malouff’s Store and Station, for 15 years. Jim and Rose moved to Kirtland, NM and started a produce business, which they operated for ten years. They then opened Malouff Salvage, which they operated until Jim’s Death in 2010. Rose was very dedicated to her family and had great love for all her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was a very special person to every child who crossed her path. Everyone called her mom, and she took great pride and comfort in that. Every person she ever met was her friend and she had a saying for everything. Her family will always have fond memories of the sayings and quotes she shared with them.  Rose also loved her chickens, enjoyed cooking, took great pleasure in holding babies and children, had a fondness for reading, and enjoyed listening to old country music.

Rose is preceded in death by her parents, Howard and Gertrude Smith; husband, James Malouff; an infant son, Jimmy Daniel Malouff; brothers, Stewart Smith, Dale Smith and Raymond Smith; sister, Lois Smith; and her in-laws William and Lyvonne Malouff, Bartley & Liz Malouff, and David Malouff.

She is survived by her seven children, Eugene (Joelle) of New Lisbon, WI, Marion Malouff of Alamosa, CO, Mark Malouff of Kirtland, NM, Edward (Tina) Malouff of Billings, MT, Jeanine (Gary) Hensley of Sanford, CO, Karen (Rick) Reichhoff of Mauston, WI and Raymond Malouff of Kirtland, NM. Rose is also survived by her brother Kale (Margie) Smith of Rock Springs, WY, sister-in-law Mary Smith of Alamosa, CO, sister-in-law- Margret Muniz of Capulin, CO, sister-in-law Suzzette Malouff of Kirtland, NM; 18 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Friday, October 5, at Saint Joseph’s Parish in Capulin.

Interment at Capulin Cemetery will follow the service.
