La Jara resident Sammy G. Marquez, 84, passed away December 4, 2021 at his home under Hospice care with his loving family by his side. Sammy came into the world on August 22, 1937 in La Jara, Colo., the son of Carlos Marquez and Eva Trujillo. After graduating high school, he met and married the love of his life Louise Quintana on April 1, 1961. The two shared a happy and loving union of 61 years. Sammy was a compassionate and loving man, he enjoyed gardening, fishing, watching sports and spending as much time as he could with his grandchildren, family and friends.
Survivors include his loving wife Louise Marquez of La Jara, C; daughters Eva (Ron) Petica of Woodland Park, Colo.; Emily Marquez of Dillon, Colo.; Roberta Christine “Chrissy” (Gene) Martinez of La Jara, Colo.; Angie (Jeff) Salquist of Breckenridge, Colo.; sons Samuel Charlie “Sammy” Marquez of Denver, Colo.; Felix Marquez, Raymond Andrew (Barbara) Marquez both of La Jara, Colo.; 14 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren, brothers Charlie (Jenny) Marquez of La Jara, Colo.; Ralph (Margaret) Marquez of California. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Sammy was preceded in death by his parents Carlos and Eva Marquez, brother Leo Marquez and one daughter-in-law Linda Marquez.
Cremation was chosen and a Vigil Service will be held on Saturday, December 11, 2021 at 10:00 AM at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Capulin. A Memorial Mass will follow at 10:30 AM also at St. Joseph Church. Interment will be held at the Capulin Cemetery. To leave online condolences please visit romerofuneralhomes.com.
