Ernesto ‘The Barber’ Sanchez

Our beloved cowboy, Ernesto “The Barber” Sanchez took his last ride on Sept. 30, 2024, at the age of 78. Ernesto was born in Cañon de Chama on Jan. 15, 1946, to Patricio S. and Rebecca G. Sanchez. 

Ernie was an avid Nuggets and Broncos fan with a passion for horses and ranching. He also thoroughly loved wrestling, “the only true sport.” He started barbering in Commerce City, Colo., and moved back home where he continued his career and was known simply as “the Barber.” The Barber always took life in stride, was humorous, and always willing to help his family and friends. He will be dearly missed by his family, friends and the community. 

He was preceded in death by his parents Patricio S. and Rebecca G. Sanchez; his brothers Joe R. Sanchez, Bernie C. Sanchez and Patricio E. Sanchez. 

He is survived by his wife Eunice Bernal of the family home; sisters Alice Sanchez of Blanca, Karen Vargas of Fort Garland; two brothers Meliton Sanchez of Kersey and Floyd (Debbie) Sanchez of Denver; his children David (Melissa) Marquez, Angela (Basil Martinez) Bernal, Manuel R. Bernal II; seven grandchildren (Dianne (Dalton) Gardner, A.J. Aron (Zack) Chavez, Haley Bernal, Syriah Bernal, Julian (Kamilla) Chavez, Basil Martinez II and Stephanie DeBouse); four great-grandvhildren, numerous nieces, nephews and special friend Erven Jacquez. 

A Rosary will be held on Friday, Oct. 4, 2024, at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Chama, Colo., at 9:30 a.m. 

The Mass of Resurrection will be at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church at 10 a.m. 

 Interment to follow at the Chama Cemetery.
