Lisa Sykes

Lisa Kate Sykes passed away on Sept. 23, 2024. She was born on Dec. 29, 1951, to Rex Elmer and Etha Louise Hudson, in Dumas, Texas. Lisa grew up in Stratford, Texas, attended college at West Texas A&M University, and married Charles Eugene Sykes in Canyon, Texas, on Aug. 18, 1972. 

The couple and their one young son moved to Alamosa, Colo., to farm and ranch in 1976. In 1991, they bought Star Steel, which Lisa operated until she retired in 2013. In addition to raising three children, she enjoyed raising chickens, goats and ducks, quilting, and watching the hummingbirds. 

Lisa is survived by her sister and brother-in-law, Sheri and Marvin Rasmussen, her sons and daughters-in-law, Morgan and Tess Sykes; and Glenn and Becka Sykes, her daughter and son-in-law Briana and Elliot Mallet; and 8 grandchildren. 

She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband.  

An open house to celebrate Lisa's life is set for Oct. 12 from noon to 3 p.m. at her residence in Star, 14440 Estrella Road, Alamosa, CO, 81101. Please feel free to come and go as you are able.
