William ‘Playboy’ Olivas

Posted

With deep sadness, we announce the sudden passing of William “Playboy” Olivas on Sept. 22, 2024, at the young age of 51.

William was born in Alamosa, Colo., on Sept. 27, 1971, to John and Irene Olivas.

William was the baby of a large, combined family. He is survived by brothers Jerry Olivas, Nathan Gallegos, Mike Ruybal, and Tom Gallegos, and sisters Wilma Olivas, Pauline Martinez, and Berna Ramirez.

He was preceded in death by his parents John and Irene Olivas and son Richard Olivas.

Family was what Wil cherished above all, including his three children: Romez Ybarra, Deja (Santos Villanuera) Sandoval, Santana (JP Lopez) Sandoval, and one beloved grandson Julian Villanuera and another on the way. Extremely proud of his family circle.

Wil lived a life defined by love, creativity and his enormous heart which showed to all those in need. After graduating high school, he attended an Arizona Art School. Art was one of Wil’s passions. Painting, drawing, and tattooing were a few things he loved doing. Cooking was also something he excelled at. His joy of cooking was apparent if you ever went to The Rubi Slipper where he was employed.

Music was his true calling. Karaoke with family, friends, and strangers is what he loved. Recording music of friends and family is one thing most know him by. A member of a local group known as Playaz Cru.

Very talented in many areas, he left his mark on all who knew him. Well known for his large heart and colorful imagination and clothing, he will be deeply missed by all.

Memorial service will be a small gathering of friends and family at Romero’s Funeral Home in Alamosa at noon on Sunday, Sept. 29, 2024. Come help us remember him and share stories with one another.
