DEL NORTE — Terry S. Blackmon, 75, passed away Jan. 10, 2020 in his home with his loving wife Patricia and sister Debbie by his side. 

Terry was born October 14, 1944 in Cheyenne Okla., to Jewel and Bonnie Blackmon.

He moved to the San Luis Valley in the winter of 1961 and graduated from Del Norte High School in 1963.

He had many different jobs in his youth but the positions that mattered most were his years of service to his community and the town of Del Norte. 

He took pride in his service to the Sheriff’s Office, as Del Norte police chief, as a volunteer firefighter, as a business owner providing medical supplies to the community, and as mayor of Del Norte.  Terry served on the Town Board, ambulance board, and on the Fire Protection District. 

Terry’s devotion to the community was unmeasured and his hope for the community to prosper never faltered. 

Terry is preceded in death by his father Jewel Blackmon, aka Blacky; mother Bonnie Blackmon; and sister Ruth West. 

Terry is survived by his devoted wife of 49 years, Patricia Blackmon; sister Debbie (Darwin) Brewster, mother-in-law, Lyda Finnigan; his two children TJ (Aimee) Blackmon, Michelle (Tyler) DiDonato and grandson Clint Blackmon. 

A memorial service will be planned for later in the spring.
