Our beloved Wanda Darleen Valdez went to be with the Lord on May 11, 2024. Wanda was born on Aug. 13, 1940, in San Francisco “El Rito”, Colo., to Frank “Kiko” and Estrella Medina.

There are so many lives in which Wanda has touched. She was the matriarch and pillar of her family. A three-time breast cancer survivor, she was the true definition of strength and perseverance. She faced any adversity with such grace and courage.

She could bring anyone joy, her wit and sarcasm brought so much laughter and lightheartedness.

Wanda was a true servant to the Lord, and her faithfulness to him was indeed one of a kind.

She loved God, her family, friends, card games and Sunday bingo trips.

Wanda is survived by her children Alan (Rosann) Valdez, Teresa (Steve) Valdez, Wayne Sanchez, grandchildren, Antoinette (Jeremy) Romero, Dario Martinez, Alexis (Lamont) Martinez, Jerek DeLuna, Alina DeLuna, James Sanchez, Nicole (Timothy) Nelson, Brandon Valdez, Shane Valdez, and great-granddaughters Delilah Romero, Alyanna Romero, Jericka Romero, Janessa Mondragon, Audrianna Mondragon and Ava Bryant, brother Franklin (Vicki) Medina and sisters Sandra Romero and Patsy Medina, as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

She was preceded in death by her father Frank Medina, mother Estrella Medina, daughter Claudette Valdez, brothers Archie, Eban, Virgil, Dennis, Steve Medina, and sisters Nadine Rascon and Patsy Maes-Medina, nieces Stephanie Medina, Audrey Martinez, Janay Romero, nephew JonDoe Placek and grandson Eduardo Ontiveros.

Wanda will be remembered by her gracious and faithful heart, boundless love, and irresistible laughter. She will be forever missed, may her soul rest in peace.

A Vigil Services will be held on Friday, May 17, 2024, at 7 p.m. at the Sangre de Cristo Parish. A Funeral Mass will be held Saturday, May 18, 2024, at 10 a.m. also at the Sangre de Cristo Parish Church in San Luis, Colo. Interment will follow at the San Luis Cemetery.
