Appreciation for poker run

Posted

Capulin– We would like to express our heartfelt thanks and appreciation to all who attended and participated in the “Querino Cervantes Benefit Poker Run” on Saturday, July 31, 2021. Without all of your love and your support, this event would not have been a success.

We would like to thank Father Jay Gapayao, St. Joseph Parish, Capulin for the Blessing of the Bikes and also the special prayer over all who attended. Thank you to the businesses who allowed us to stop at their place; Juanitos, Lulu’s, 101 Bar & Grill and Dutchmill Café.

Thanks to the officers of the Conejos County Sheriff’s department and Justin Spencer and his crew who stopped traffic for us at intersections. It’s been over a year since the pandemic swept in and put the lives of everyone in a standstill, but when 71-plus bikes roared into the small town of Capulin, things felt a little more normal on Saturday. Even as we rode in the rain and hail, it was still a good time.

Conversations between friends that didn’t take place last year picked up and it was exciting to watch. Throughout the day, there were gift certificates given out and at the last stop many were lucky enough to take home wonderful items such as sports memorabilia, t-shirts and other great items. All items were donated to the cause and we thank all donors.

The poker run helped raise money for Querino and his family in this time of need. We were grateful for the great turn out and that we were able to have the run. Bikers near and far were ready to come back to give freely for this cause and we appreciate them very much!

Many times bikers are stereotyped as bad people, but that’s not always the case. Yes, we travel in a pack. Yes, we are loud and sometimes scary looking. But if you get a chance to hang out with these somewhat intimidating groups, you will discover that we are an awesome bunch of caring people doing great things in our communities.

Special thanks to the Cervantes Family, Angela Velasquez and her family, LeeAnn Duran-Navarro, Patsi Gomez, Matt Cordova, and Naisa Garcia for their help in making this such a successful run.

Sincerely, Julie Gomez-Nuanes
