SAGUACHE COUNTY — On a beautiful fall day, residents and visitors enjoyed various locally sourced food, fun, and music at the Harvest Moon Festival in Casita Park.

Nick Navares of Crestone and one of the organizers of the festival held on Saturday, Sept. 28, said, "This is the third annual Fall Harvest Festival, and this year we are raising funds to buy trees."

The festival included a buffet with green chili enchiladas, stews, salads, and baked goods. Chronic Joy Collective, Kosmos and The Audience performed live music.

Eddy Byerly with the Friends of Casita Park said the group plans to plant 25 trees, "To help our neighborhood. This is what we can do as neighbors. Every year, we are going to plant more trees to protect our kids from the wind, and someday, we will offer shade."

Navares thanked the Valley Roots Food Hub and Saguache County for their generous donations of food and money.

On Oct. 12, the Crestone Energy Fair will hold a gala fundraiser at the Dune Valley Distillery, and Nevares will prepare an Indian-themed 4-course meal sourced through the food hub. Local musicians Kosmos and Xerphine will perform. Tickets for this are available for purchase at www.crestoneenergyfair.org.
