Longtime Sanford resident Obed J. Jiron departed this life on Aug. 17, 2024. He passed away peacefully at the Rio Grande Inn with his loving family at his side. Obed was welcomed into the world on Nov. 7, 1935, the beloved son of Manuel Jiron and Cecilia (Jaramillo) Jiron.

Obed loved to be involved with the community, he was a people person. When he had free time, Obed enjoyed going dancing, fishing and camping. He was an avid Denver Broncos fan. He loved his trips traveling to Denver to be with his family. Obed loved leading the Marcha De Los Novios for weddings. He was a loving grandfather and loved teaching his grandchildren about being hard workers.

He is survived by his wife Benita L. Jiron of Sanford, Colo.; daughter Cindy Lee (Pat) Herrera of Alamosa, Colo.; sons Obed Jiron Jr., of Sanford, Colo.; Kelvin Adam Jiron (Pam Rice) of Englewood, Colo.; Rodney Jimmy (Jacque) Jiron of Denver, Colo.; grandchildren Adam Obed (Desure) Jiron, Alonzo (Sydney) Herrera, Estevan Jiron, Diego Jiron; great-grandchildren Giovanni, Oliver, Jynora; sister Elaine Vigil of Ft. Collins, Colo.; brothers Aggie (Lilly) Jiron of Antonito, Colo.; Lionel Jiron of Denver, Colo. Obed is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Obed was preceded in death by his parents Manuel and Cecilia Jiron, five brothers, two sisters as well as his mother and father-in-law’s Delfino and Della Gallegos.

Viewing and visitation will be held on Friday, Aug. 30, 2024, from 4-6 p.m. at Our Lady of the Valley Catholic Church. Vigil Service will be held on Aug. 30, 2024, at 6:30 p.m. at Our Lady of the Valley Church. Mass of the Resurrection will be held on Saturday, Aug. 31, 2024, at 10 a.m. also at Our Lady of the Valley Church. Interment will follow at the Sanford Cemetery.
