LA JUNTA — Thursday Mar. 29 the Alamosa and Monte Vista girls' golf teams traveled to La Junta for an invitational. The two teams would place in the top ten. Monte Vista tied for third place with Cheyenne Wells with a +97 team score. Alamosa finished in sixth place collecting +105 as a team.
Monte Vista’s top golfer was Gracie Burkhart who finished sixth overall with 94 strokes. Burkhart golfed for par on holes 6 and 17. She would stumble a little on holes 3 and 7 where she added six strokes over par. Directly behind Burkhart was her teammate Alyson Baker. Baker would utilize a par on hole 7 and a birdie on whole ten to keep her score at 97 strokes.
Alamosa got some impressive individual efforts with two girls finishing in the top 5. Alana Hackett placed second overall with 90 strokes. Hackett stuck pretty close to par all day even getting below on the 12th hole with a birdie. Lexi Ortega was another bright spot for the Moose placing fifth overall with 92 strokes. Ortega started on hole five and learned the lay of the course en route to hole one and her first par of the day.
The top individual spot went to Jolene Carrica of Swink, who earned two birdies to tally 80 strokes. Carrica’s Lions also claimed the top spot with a team total of +77. Both Alamosa and Monte Vista go right back to work after the weekend with anther invitational. The Pirates and Moose will travel on Apr. 2 to Swink, the club swinging is slated to begin at 9 a.m.
